Milestones and collaboration towards GSP’s overarching objective
The initiation and development of innovative pilots for potential realization are the most crucial tools of the Green Shipping Program (GSP). These are created through collaboration. Collaboration that involves a complete maritime cluster. Collaboration across disciplines. Sometimes, collaboration even between competitors.
The overarching goal of the Green Shipping Program is to create profitable emission reductions and strengthen Norwegian maritime competitiveness.
To achieve this goal, GSP aims to be at the forefront of:
- Demonstration projects
- New technologies
- Emission-free fuels
- Cost-effective logistics solutions
The program facilitates mutual learning among partners through dialogue and collaboration often across disciplines and established boundaries.
In this development, several sub-goals become important. For example:
- Ensuring the phased introduction of the best available technology
- Facilitating the development of new technology
- Finding feasible solutions for efficient and environmentally friendly shipping
- Ensuring that public construction contracts within the maritime sector are carried out by Norwegian shipyards
- Establishing attractive green financing
The Green Shipping Programme will always focus on potential green solutions and contribute to promoting new technology. Through the Technology Radar, the program seeks new technologies with potential for further development and concretization.
Experiences since the inception of the Green Shipping Programme (GSP) in 2015 have shown that the most crucial action we can take to achieve an effective green transition is:
«To ensure the effective functioning of markets for green technologies.»
- Therefore, GSP’s Service Center for Green Fleet Renewal has been developed precisely to act as a catalyst for scaling up Norwegian fleet renewal.
