The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) are experts in freshwater and marine ecosystems, from mountains, through lakes and rivers, to fjords, coasts, and oceans.
NIVA’s main areas of focus are research, environmental monitoring, assessment, advisory services, and problem-solving to support decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.
NIVA was established in 1958 and has national responsibilities for the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
NIVA’s headquarters are in Oslo, with regional offices in Bergen, Grimstad, Tromsø, Hamar, and Copenhagen.
